Circuit Judge rules a portion of Illinois’ Safe-T Act unconstitutional

Circuit Judge Cunnington has ruled a portion of Illinois’ Safe-T Act unconstitutional. In a press release sent out Wednesday from the Kankakee County State’s Attorney’s office, Judge Cunnington ruled in favor of the Plaintiffs in the lawsuit consisting of 65 counties throughout Illinois, including Kankakee and Will Counties, who filed suit against Governor JB Pritzker. State’s Attorney, Jim Rowe, says this ruling affirms that we are still a government of the people. Pre-trial release provisions and bail reform will not go into effect in the 65 counties that were a part of the lawsuit. Other provisions of the Safe-T act such as body cameras and training will be upheld.
