Kankakee City Fire Department Personnel were kept busy over the weekend. City Firefighters were called to a pair of fires Saturday. The first just after 1:30 Saturday afternoon was in a vacant home in the 1000 block of South 7th Avenue. When they got there, firefighters say they found smoke coming from the second floor and roof of the home. They found the fire in a bathtub on the second floor which reports say was caused by someone burning copper wiring. Reports say they have no suspects and the fire caused minor damage to the home. Then just about 10 Saturday night, firefighters were called to a two-unit rental home in the 900 block of East Merchant, where firefighters found fire in the walls of both the first and second floor units. A neighbor called in the fire, saying they had seen a small fire on the outside of the home. That fire was thought to have been electrical in nature. It caused about 15-thousand-dollars in damage to the home. There were no injuries, but a family of four was displaced by the blaze.
