Kankakee County State’s Attorney Jim Rowe filed a lawsuit in Kankakee County Circuit Court this morning asking that the Safe-T Act be declared unconstitutional. In a press release, Rowe says he filed the lawsuit on behalf of Kankakee County Sheriff Mike Downey. Rowe says the lawsuit basically accuses State Legislators of illegally amending the State Constitution

Rowe said he’s not getting into the merits of the Act, that the lawsuit is aimed solely at the constitutionality of the act. Among other allegations, the lawsuit says the act violates the state’s single subject law, the provision that each proposed law be read on three separate days in both the house and the senate and denied voters a voice in changes to the state constitution. The lawsuit names Governor JB Pritzker and Attorney General Kwame Raoul as defendants.
