Local legislators are weighing in on the conviction of the ComEd Four. In a press release, 79th District State Representative Jackie Haas said she hopes the convictions will force the legislature to “get serious” about ethics reform. Haas says the conviction “indict the culture of corruption that was allowed to thrive under Speaker Madigan’s inner circle” and “Illinoisians should be furious” since “nothing in Springfield has changed in Springfield to prevent this kind of behavior”.
53rd District State Senator Tom Bennett called the case “a showcase of everything that is wrong with the political system in Illinois”. Saying it “showcased how high-ranking members of Madigan’s inner circle continued to abuse their positions to help themselves and their allies”.
