Today is Juneteenth, the newest of the Federal Holidays. Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021 and Theodis Pace, President of the local branch of the N-Double-A-C-P tells us the significance of the date
It was June 19th, 1865, when Federal troops marched in to Galveston Texas to free the last of the enslaved people in the United States, three years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.
