Illinois lawmakers are calling for relief from the gas tax burden, urging Governor J.B. Pritzker to suspend the gas tax like governors in neighboring states of Indiana and Kentucky have recently done to offer drivers temporary relief. 106th District State Representative Jason Bunting said today he would be in favor of a suspension.
The state imposes a forty-eight cent per gallon tax on every gallon of gasoline and a five percent sales tax on top of that; this total will increase with a scheduled rise set for July 1st.
