Federal Health officials are looking for the source behind a parasitic illness causing severe symptoms. According to the CDC, cyclosporiasis [[ sye-klo-spor-eye-uh-sis ]] is a type of food poisoning caused by a parasite, and symptoms usually occur within two to 14 days after ingestion. The CDC first learned of large clusters of cyclosporiasis in early May and had recorded only 145 cases across 17 states as of July 1st. However, there appears to be a surge as it has spread to at least 18 states, with Illinois among the states reporting the most cases. Outbreaks of cyclosporiasis are typically traced back to prepackaged food and fresh produce, but so far, the CDC or FDA have not identified the source of this outbreak.
