Gas prices are down slightly as you head out for your Labor Day travels. Triple-A says the average cost for a gallon of regular no-lead gas is four-dollars-30 cents across the Land of Lincoln. That’s down two cents overnight, but still 82 cents more expensive than it was at this time last year. Triple-A says gas in the Kankakee area is averaging 4.16 a gallon, down a penny overnight, but some 86 cents more expensive than a year ago. Gas in Iroquois County is running 4.19 a gallon. It’s 4.31 in Ford County, 4.15 in Grundy County and 4.34 in Will County.
Across the state line, Triple-A says a gallon of gas will set you back three-dollars-44 cents on average in Newton County, It’s 3.52 a gallon in Benton County and 3.54 a gallon in Jasper County. Triple-A says gas is running three-dollars-44 cents a gallon on average across the Hoosier State. That state’s moratorium on collecting taxes on gasoline had been set to expire Saturday, but has been extended for another month.
