Manteno fire gets grant

The help wanted sign will soon be out at the Manteo Community Fire Protection District. In a press release sent out over the weekend, Manteno Fire Chief Rick Petersen says his department was one of 97 departments nationwide to get a Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response or SAFER grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to support the hiring of three new full-time firefighters. The 832-thousand-dollar grant was approved September 21st. Manteno was one of only four fire departments in the state to receive the grant.
