Mokena Video Closes After 41 Years

One of the region’s last remaining video rental stores closed its doors after 41 years in business. According to multiple Facebook posts, Mokena Video on Front Street in Mokena, just about 40 minutes north of Kankakee County, hit the rewind button one last time on Friday. Owner Bob Braeunig opened Mokena Video in November 1985 with 650 movies available to rent. Over the decades, the store grew to offer customers over 23,000 titles in DVD, Blu-Ray, VHS, or video game formats. In Kankakee County, the last video rental store to close its doors was Family Video in Bourbonnais in the early months of 2021.
