The Kankakee Fire Department was called out to fight a fire on the city’s east side Monday. According to Fire Chief Bryan LaRoche, crews were called out around two p.m. Monday to put out a small fire at a home in the 500 block of North Hammes Avenue. When firefighters arrived, they found flames on the outside of the home. The fire was quickly put out. Crews remained on scene for about an hour to ensure no flames had extended elsewhere. It appears the fire may have been started by cigarette. About 15-thousand dollars worth of damage was done to the home. No one was inside the home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reporter
