During Wednesday morning’s Kankakee County Board’s Criminal Justice Committee meeting, County Sheriff Mike Downey spoke to the committee about the lack of resources in the state when it comes to facilities dealing with mental health. Sheriff Downey highlighted the state’s recent decision to close the downstate Choate Mental Health Center

The Sheriff said the issue is another problem with the SAFE-T act

Downey noted that Kankakee County does have programs in place to  try to deal with the problem, but he also pointed out there is a limited amount of resources available to deal with the issue.
