Fire in Loda Wednesday Nearly Destroys Home

An early morning fire Wednesday destroyed a detached garage of a home in Loda. The Ford County Chronicle reports that approximately 35 volunteer firefighters from Loda, Buckley and Paxton fought the blaze around three in the morning Wednesday at a house in the 5-hundred block of East Washington Avenue in Loda. When crews arrived, the detached garage was fully involved with flames before it spread to the home. Two people who live in the home escaped without injuries before firefighters arrived. Fire Chief Harold Ecker says the fire destroyed the detached garage, the two cars parked inside and caused extensive damage to the home. Firefighters took about three hours to extinguish the flames. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
